Other uses for household items

You use that for what? Cleaning products that you might not think of!

There are many items in our homes that have a dual purpose; for example, a jug is not only a way to serve drinks but can also make a great make-shift vase, should you be surprised with flowers (just make sure you wash it out in-between).

What you might not realise is that there are plenty of other items around your home that have more than just one use; and sometimes you just need to think a little out of the box to find them.

Here at Cullen’s we want to make cleaning, tidying and decluttering as easy as possible which is why we have put together our guide to some multi-purpose household items and just why they are so handy to have!

Vodka

Not just for a summery cocktail; Vodka has a number of uses around your home too.

Stains- Vodka is useful for removing stains from your clothes; just simply dab a little bit on the stain before washing. It is also known to keep clothes fresh and remove odours.

Mould– Mould is a pain; and it seems that the only solution is bleach. But if you are not keen on using bleach then spray a vodka and water mixture on the mould and allow it to soak in before wiping clean.

Polish- If you are looking for an alternative to polish then try vodka instead. Wet a soft cloth with vodka and then use it to polish glass, windows and mirrors; leaving them shining and clean.

Tumble Dryer Sheets

Even if you have used the tumble dryer sheet already, you shouldn’t throw it in the bin. Instead these sheets still have their uses.

Clean your iron- Cleaning an iron can be tricky, but a tumble dryer sheet is the ideal solution. Turn the iron on low and rub the tumble dryer sheet over, any residue will come straight off.

Removing hair- Tumble dryer sheets are great for removing both pet and human hairs from sofas, clothes and other pieces of furniture.

Butter

We all love a bit of real butter spread over our toast in the morning. But what you might not realise is that the natural oils in butter can help in sticky situations too.

Glue- If you have indulged in some craft time then you might find yourself left with sticky hands. Try rubbing a little butter on them before washing and the glue will come straight off.

Tree Sap- Have you ever found your car covered in the sap of a tree after parking under it? If you have, then try rubbing some soft butter on the spots with a cloth before washing off with soap and water. This will dislodge the sap with ease.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste keeps our teeth sparkly and clean; not only this but it can be used around your home too.

Chrome Taps- If you have dull taps then why not pop a blob of toothpaste on a cloth and rub it into the taps. Leave it for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Garlic Hands- Despite the delicious flavours of garlic, not many of us like having our hands left with the odour. To freshen up those fingers, try washing your hands with a dab of toothpaste to take away the stink.

So now you know, perhaps you can do away with all those bottles and sprays under the sink and simply use some of the items that you already have instead? Not only will you be saving yourself money but you will save yourself some storage space too.
