Top tips for a waste free bathroom

Here at Cullens, we want to help our customers to find ways to reduce the amount of waste that they produce.

One of the areas that you might be surprised to learn produces high levels of waste is the bathroom. Bottles, packaging, disposable razors, wipes and tubes are all items that we chuck away regularly from our bathrooms alone.

But that’s because it can’t be recycled right? Wrong. Not only can many of the items from your bathroom be recycled but there are also ways that you can reduce the amount of waste that you produce too.

Here are our top tips to creating a waste-free bathroom.

Do away with the bottles of shampoo and conditioner

Whilst one of the easiest ways to reduce your waste would be to stop using shampoo and conditioner, if you are anything like us, the idea of washing with water alone doesn’t really appeal.

Cosmetic giants Lush have looked at clever ways to reduce bathroom waste and come up with their packaging-free shampoo and conditioned bars which not only eliminate waste but are also a pretty great treat for your hair too!

Sharing and caring

Are you the type of families that have an assortment of different bottles and bars dotted around the bathroom? If you are then there is a good chance you will be producing a lot of waste.

Instead of having a separate shower gel or soap why not share? There are a variety of shower gels out there that are suitable for every member of the family and you can buy these in large sizes to make sure that it lasts as long as possible.

Wipe away the natural way

Need to remove your make up at the end of the day? Do you opt for throwaway wipes? Instead why not simply grab a flannel and wash your face off at the end of the day? This will cut down on waste and also save you money in the long run.

If you are a fan of cleansers, toners and moisturisers then look for natural recipes that you can use to achieve the same results as those shop bought options.

Change your toilet habits

By this, we mean your toilet roll. Recycled toilet roll is kinder to the environment and if you buy in bulk from a wholesaler or office supply store, then you will be reducing the waste produced by the packaging.

Don’t forget to recycle those inner tubes too or remember that they are great additions to crafty projects that kids will love to get involved in!

Save water

The last top tip we have for your bathroom is saving water usage. Not only does this have a positive impact on the environment but is also better for your pocket.

Do you like to run the shower before you get in? Collect the water that runs and use it to water the plants or wash the dog. Try to minimise the amount that you leave the tap running as this will help with the water usage too.
