Ideas for reusing a glass jar

Recycling and repurposing are great ways to cut down on the waste that your household produces. Often it means taking items that can be recycled, such as glass jars, and popping them in the relevant collection points ready to be sent off to be crushed and made into a new glass item.

But what if you could do something creative with those unwanted glass jars?

Here at Cullens Clearances, we have put together some fantastic ideas to transform something that you can easily chuck away to something that brings a touch of style, functionality or personality to your home.

Lantern

It is really easy to transform a glass jar into a beautiful lantern that can be used both indoors and outdoors.

All you need to do is pop some coloured beads (or sand) into the bottom of the jar and then add a tea light.

Vase

Once you have cleaned out your jar and washed off the labels then you can add flowers to it with water and create a simple yet stylish vase. To give it a splash of colour then you could always draw on the jar with sharpie pens (or similar) and create a unique, handmade vase that is truly one of a kind.

Jam, chutney or pickling

Why not use the glass jar as it was originally intended? Keep the lid and use it for batches of jam, marmalade, chutneys or simply pickled vegetables and give them away as gifts or even keep them for yourself!

Serving container

Whether it is filling up with your favourite cocktail or filling with yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. Jars are ideal to serve a variety of things within.

Storage

There are so many things that you can store away in a glass jar. Pens and pencils look great if you add  a pop of colour with glitter or paint. You can also create a pin cushion for the lid of the jar and use it a sewing accessory.

Family fun

Whether it is date night ideas, family fun activities or perhaps reasons why you love the people in your life; jars are great for adding a splash of fun to the home. Simply write your ideas or reasons on rolled up pieces of paper or lolly sticks and bring them out when you need them.

Piggy Bank

Jars make excellent piggy banks for storing coins in. Simply pop a slot on the lid (if you can) and use it to save away all those pennies that can build up into a nice little spending pot!

Glass jars don’t just have to become another glass jar. Why not use your imagination and transform them into something a lot more exciting!
