The top mistakes people make when organising their homes
Whilst you may try extra hard to have a beautifully clean house, here at Cullens we know that when it comes to organising you can end up making your perfectly clean house look messy and unkempt.
To help make sure that your home is looking its best we have put together some of the most common mistakes that people make when trying to get their house looking clean, tidy and of course tip top!
Too clear counter tops
Clutter can make your home look messy, but equally sparse can be an issue too. This is especially true in the kitchen when a clear counter top can show up all those messy spots that you don’t want people to see. If there is something that you use on a daily basis, such as toaster, blender or fruit basket; then have it on display.
A fridge full of magnets
Whilst many of us think that a fridge packed with mementos, notes and magnets makes for a great family focal point; it can in fact have the opposite effect. Rather than clogging up the front of one of the most visited places in your home, why not opt for a small clipboard or notice board in the room instead? You can tack everything you need on there and then it becomes the families go to place for info; rather than their go to place for milk!
Packing full your cabinets
We are all guilty of having that one cupboard, cabinet or drawer that’s sole purpose is to house all the “rubbish” that has no other place in our home. Whilst this is great for keeping the rest of the house clean and clear it can actually make you feel rather down when you open the door to find mess.
From time to time make sure that you take everything out; if you are not using it or are unlikely to need it then let it go. One you have cleared out the space then pop smaller containers (such as Tupperware) in there for the remaining items. This will keep it neat and make sure things are easy to find.
A cluttered hallway
When someone enters your home it is likely to be through your hallway or entrance porch. This is often a space in the house that is covered in coats, shoes, umbrellas and bags and can look mighty messy! Rearranging it can really make an impact on how your house looks.
Have a basket to store those discarded shoes in and, if you can, have a designated spot for bags so that these are not strewn around the space.
Not labelling
If you have chosen to use bins or tubs for your storage needs, then this is great. It means that items are popped away out of sight and out of mind. But what happens when you need something and you can’t for the life of you remember where it is.
To stop this from happening, as well as the chance that you will then disrupt everything looking for it, why not make use of labels? They can simply be the room the items came from, anything that will give you a clue to the contents really will help.
So there you have it, the top errors that us normal folk make when organising our homes. We hope that you have learnt some ways that you can keep your home looking neat, however, if you need the expert advice of a professional clearance company then get in touch.
