Recycling isn’t only for home; how to be green no matter where you are!

When it comes to living a greener life you may think that the only impact you can have is within your own home; and whilst recycling, repurposing and watching your waste in the home can help, you can take this even further than your own front door.

Here at Cullens Clearances we have put together our top tips on taking the green life travelling, whether it is a family adventure for the summer or perhaps a quick break; you can be green whilst you relax and unwind!

Booking your break

If you want to indulge in a holiday whilst still being environmentally aware then one of the first things you can do is to visit an environmentally friendly travel company. They will have knowledge of the very best green hotels and activities that you can book as well as how you can travel responsibly to minimise your impact on the environment around you.

Transport

It isn’t just how you are going to get there in the first place but also how you are going to get around once you reach your destination. Direct flights are much kinder on the environment than those that have stop offs and bus, trains and even your own two feet are the ideal green way to get around your resort, town or landscape of choice.

Be paperless

We all know that a paperless life is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint; but this seems to be forgotten when it comes to travelling and holidays. See if you have any apps that will save your plane tickets and where you can try to keep maps, reservations and your itineraries in a digital form rather than printed off.

Don’t forget your recycle rules

Just because you are away from home doesn’t mean that you should forget the things that you would normally do when you are there. Whilst you are taking in the scenery and relaxing you can still pop your waste in the correct recycling bins throughout the town or the hotel and if you are not sure where they are then make sure you ask; they may be hidden away from plain sight.

Try the local life

Whilst you are on holiday why not immerse yourself in the local culture? One of the best ways is to head to the local farmer’s markets and smaller local restaurants; these are not only sustainable but also give you an insight into the country that you might not have seen by eating in chain eateries!

Reuse from home

When packing items to take with you on holiday remember some of the reusable things that you already use at home. Water bottles for example can be refilled whilst you are out and about (just be careful where you fill it up from).

This summer, we hope that you have a wonderful break, no matter where you decide to go! Just remember that waste management and recycling can help the environment in any of the four corners of the world!
